We took the most amazing excursion which included a flight over the Great Barrier Reef followed by a boat ride to Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays. This was an experience of a lifetime. Seeing the Great Barrier Reef from above like that was unbelievable. The sand on Whitehaven Beach is made from some of the purest silica anywhere. This is a must do if you’re ever in the area.
A Lovely Lagoon
Airlie Beach has the most awesome man-made lagoon area downtown. It’s open to the public for no admission fee and is beautifully landscaped, has clean restrooms and lifeguards on duty certain hours of the day. The water is clear and warm and protected from stingers and there’s a sandy beach area as well which is great for sunbathing. This is a great spot to relax and enjoy some care-free fun time.
