CINQUE TERRE
Five Connected Lands
Part of the fun of staying in any village of Cinque Terre is making the trip to all of the other cities. Part of the appeal of these five villages is that they can be reached by cars from the outside only but are connected to one another by footpaths and trains. This means there is very little to no vehicle traffic inside the towns and makes them very walkable and fun to explore. And each little town is completely unique and different from the other.
Swimming in the Villages
In Manarola, there’s this great little spot with a cement ramp leading into the sea. It’s not a sandy beach but it’s such a fun place to jump into the sea. Vernazza has a sandy little beach, perhaps my favorite, and a protected harbor with very calm waters that are nice to swim in. There’s also a lot of flat rocks in the area that are great for laying out a towel and catching some warm rays. The largest stretch of beach is in Monterosso directly in front of the train station. There are tons of shops and restaurants right along the beach and a really cool, giant statue of Neptune at the end of the beach. It’s a really fun place to hang out.
